Dental Crowns
What is a dental crown?
A crown is a full coverage protection restoration or a cap that completely covers your tooth.
When is a crown needed?
A crown is needed when there is a large existing filling that is weakened or broken.
When there is large decay or fracture
A crown can be used to repair broken down, ugly, fractured and discolored teeth. This can be an esthetic and strong restoration for your smile. Dr. Mabardi has made many drastic smile transformations with dental crowns and would love to help you!
Crowns are usually needed after root canal treatment due to teeth becoming brittle
You may need a crown to restore a tooth to its normal shape and size which can make your tooth stronger and more esthetic.
What is the process?
Visit 1: The dentist prepares the damaged tooth by reducing and reshaping the tooth so your crown will fit properly over it. An impression is made and sent to the lab. A temporary crown is made to protect the prepared tooth during visits.
Visit 2: Once the crown comes back from the lab (usually made from a ceramic material), the dentist makes sure the crown fits comfortably and is cemented.
