Teeth whitening usually consists of carbamide peroxide that breaks down to urea and hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is what makes the teeth whiter.
Is teeth whitening/bleaching safe?
Yes, hydrogen peroxide is formed naturally in the body. However the whitening process should not be abused and if done too often can cause damage to the enamel.
Whitening at home can be done with custom made trays made at the dentist office.
Higher percentage than over the counter products.
Recommended to wear trays for a 2 hour session, once a day for 14 days.
Teeth can be sensitive during the whitening process and soft tissue irritation can happen as well. It is recommended to drink clear liquids while whitening for best results.
